Financial problems at Aberdeen Council took a turn for the worse last week, with news that the authority may be forced to slash a further £25m from its budget. Officials at Aberdeen planned to cut £50m from the council's spending this year, but are on course to save just £35m. At a meeting of the full council on November 12, officials admitted the remaining £15m in cuts would be added to a target of 6% savings next year – meaning the authority must now reduce its costs by £25m in 2009/10. Financial problems have emerged at the council because forecast expenditure, of £459m next year, have far exceeded income.
