Education secretary, Michael Gove, intends rolling out the academies programme to cover more under-performing schools.

He told delegates at the national children's and adult services conference in Manchester last week: ‘I would like local authorities to consider more schools for academy status, where both attainment and pupil progression are low, and where schools lack the capacity to improve themselves.'
