The civil service specialists' union, Prospect, has urged the Government to ‘act now' to ensure long-term investment in energy – or risk energy blackouts in three years' time.

Responding to warnings issued on 5 October by energy regulator Ofgem – which claimed the country faced one-in-12 chance of suffering power shortages by 2015/16 due to lack of spare electricity capacity – Prospect general secretary designate, Mike Clancy said: ‘The draft Energy Bill still leaves a lot of questions unanswered over funding and pricing.'
