The GMB is writing to all councillors to draw attention to the sum local authorities are spending on agency and temporary staff. A league compiled by the GMB of 434 councils claimed £1,546m was spent in 2005/06. Lincolnshire CC, which topped the GMB league with £54.5m, said the figures were incorrect.
