Uttlesford DC has vowed to fight expansion plans for Stansted Airport at a forthcoming public inquiry. The council has already refused to grant planning permission to increase the number of passengers going through the airport and a six-week public inquiry will start at the end of May. The airport can currently only handle 25 million passengers a year. ‘What is crucial is that we mount the best case possible to defend the decision the council made,' said council leader, Mark Gayler.
