The DCLG has denied reports that it plans to scrap council allotments as part of a shake-up of local government red tape.
The Independent on Sunday newspaper said the statutory duty for councils to provide allotments was part of the DCLG's current consultation on bureaucracy, and claimed councils could sell off allotments if the duty was abolished.
