The SNP has branded as ‘absurd' plans by the Scottish Executive to change councillor allowances. Ministers are currently reviewing plans for paying allowances to councillors for their responsibilities within an authority. But MSP Richard Lochhead condemned the plans outright, claiming that under current proposals, the leader of his local council, Moray, would earn just under £26,000 despite managing a multimillion-pound budget and large workforce.
