The media firm behind Kent CC's innovative web broadcasting channel has expanded into Northern Ireland. Factual media group, Ten Alps, which runs the Kent TV site for the council, revealed it was ramping up delivery of local online TV news with a deal to buy County Link Media Ltd. The Belfast-based production company is set to run public sector online TV channel called Fermanagh TV. The site, which is due to go live in May, is supported by a coalition of public agencies, including the district council. It will deliver local news, features and information via the Web. Ten Alps, said the deal would be followed by other similar opportunities to roll out the web TV concept. Chief executive, Alex Connock, said the acquisition was ‘small but significant'. ‘This comes at a time when local newspaper groups are wondering how they can continue providing local news in the face of online migration,' he said. Fearghal McKinney, director of County Link Media, predicted the initiative would give new choices to local people. He said: ‘Broadband opens up new ways to cover local stories which reflect the lives of people in every corner of Northern Ireland, and we believe county online TV channels are a great way to satisfy that demand.'
