Ambition meets reality: Can local authorities deliver the supported housing strategy?

The Government has published its long-awaited strategy on supported housing. It is big on ambition yet pushes the actual workload onto already stretched local authorities, says Charlotte Cook.

The Government's Local Supported Housing Strategies framework looks to establish a national model for how local authorities in England should strategically plan, coordinate and deliver supported housing for people who need care or support to live independently or recover from crisis.

 Published on 10 February, the guidance (Local Supported Housing Strategies) follows the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023, which places a duty on local housing authorities to prepare, publish and periodically update a Local Supported Housing Strategy.
