Accord and Gloucester City Council have signed an £80m partnership deal which aims to transform the urban area into one of the cleanest in the UK. The streetcare partnership is the biggest contract the council has ever signed, and it will run for 15 years. Accord plans to bring the local authority into the top-performing 25% councils in the country for street cleaning and recycling within the next four years. The council will also be investing £250,000 into improving public toilets across the city, and £320,000 on new recycling containers. The contractor will be spending £320,000 on parks and open spaces in the first year. A new plastic and cardboard kerbside collection will be introduced and a kitchen waste service will also be rolled out. ‘Accord shares the council's determination that within four years, Gloucester will be among the top performers for clean streets and recycling rates. ‘Our innovative partnership creates the right conditions for us to achieve this, by working with local people who care about their communities,' said Accord chief executive, Philip Fellowes-Prynne.
