ARC makes taxing case for extra Budget funding

Chancellor George Osborne should invest £260m in the Revenue and Customs department, with the cash used to chase down an additional £6bn in outstanding tax, senior officials have suggested.

Chancellor George Osborne should invest £260m in the Revenue and Customs department, with the cash used to chase down an additional £6bn in outstanding tax, senior officials have suggested.

The Association of Revenue and Customs (ARC), a management-led union within the department, has suggested the idea to Mr Osborne as part of the group's Budget submission. The plan is flagged as an alternative to the Government's spending cuts, because it could enable ministers to use the retrieved tax cash to protect frontline public services.
