ARCH plea to increase rent cap

Councils should be able to raise tenants' rents by up to £3 per week on top of any inflation-linked increase, a local authority association has told ministers.

In its response to a consultation on rent convergence, the Association of Retained Council Housing (ARCH) said a Whitehall plan to limit increases to £1 or £2 per week would be insufficient to pay for new homes, improvements or overcome problems with Housing Revenue Accounts.
