Assistant County Solicitor (Essex Legal Services)

Chelmsford. Essex Legal Services provides a dynamic and solution-based legal service, specialising in most areas of public law. Commercially oriented but with a public sector ethos, we are expanding rapidly as we successfully drive our strategy of delivering both traded and shared service offerings. As Assistant County Solicitor, you will lead the delivery of one of our major service areas, operating at a strategic level to maximise client satisfaction and grow our business. You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with expertise in the provision of legal and corporate governance advice in a public sector setting.

About the role:

Reporting to the County Solicitor, Essex Legal Services, you will lead the delivery legal services in our "place" portfolio, encompassing environmental law, highways & transport, property and projects.

You will lead a sizeable team of experts, driving a culture of empowerment, innovation and high performance that ensures the delivery of value for money legal services

As a member of Essex Legal Service's leadership team, you will contribute strategically to the development of our business, leading business development activity for the "place" sector and building strong relationships with partners.

You will also undertake senior management responsibilities for our clients and partners, including corporate governance and monitoring officer functions.

As our business grows and the demands of our clients and partners change, you will act proactively, anticipating this change and developing our service offering accordingly

About you:

You will be a highly motivated individual who shares our vision to provide a first class legal service to public sector clients. In particular, you will be inspired by the opportunity to play a significant leadership role in the growth and development of Essex Legal Services

A qualified solicitor or barrister, with a full and valid practising certificate, you will have knowledge and experience of providing corporate governance and legal advice in a public sector setting.

You will be able to establish personal credibility quickly, working with a range of clients and partners, including directorate leadership teams, executive directors, cabinet members and other key stakeholders

Passionate about achieving results, you will be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and the ability to foster a culture of high performance, innovation and value for money

Essex Legal Services provide a comprehensive in house legal service to Essex County Council and a significant number of other public sector clients. It is also home to The Coroner's Service.

We have dedicated Business Administration, Executive Support and Office Support teams who provide IT, finance, case management, secretarial and administrative support for the service.

Benefits:

The package includes performance related pay, a contributory lease car (£250 per month or £2,500 per annum car cash allowance), final salary pension scheme, relocation (c£8,000) and health insurance.
