Asylum revisited

Chris Naylor says local government could provide for the housing and wider needs of asylum seekers and refugees and this can be achieved through three linked shifts, including ditching the current contracted model.

Last year, Inner Circle Consulting delivered a pro bono project proposing a new arrangement for dispersing asylum seekers.

Working with regional and local leaders, housing associations, think-tanks and civil-society partners such as the Refugee Council, our aim was to help an incoming government rapidly improve a system few believed was working. A year on, as the stakes have risen, we are optimistic these ideas are finally gaining traction.
