At least 30 Conservative council leaders warned the prime minister this week that grass-roots support for the party could be bleeding away due to perceived attacks on local government from ministers.

In a letter sent to David Cameron, the members warn of ‘disappointment and even anger among local activists', and suggest ‘many might not be there' by the next election.
