Audit Commission accused of lavish spending

The Audit Commission has been accused of wasting thousands of pounds on lavish parties and vanity photographs for its staff.

The Audit Commission has been accused of wasting thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money on lavish parties and vanity photographs for its own staff at some of London's most expensive venues.

Official parliamentary answers reveal that between 2009 and 2010 the Audit Commission spent £12,000 on events for current and former staff at five-star venues across London. Professional photographers were also hired for the events, with the local authority spending watchdog paying £250 for 32 photographs of a launch event in December 2009.
