The Audit Commission has appointed Marcine Waterman as controller of audit from 1 September.
Ms Waterman is currently the watchdog's director of audit policy and regulation, and her new appointment has been approved by communities secretary Eric Pickles – who plans to abolish the Commission from 2014.
