The Government has restated its belief plans to localise town hall audit arrangements could deliver £650m savings over five years.

The Government has restated its belief plans to localise town hall audit arrangements could deliver £650m savings over five years.

In its response to pre-legislative scrutiny issued in January by the draft Local Audit Bill ad hoc Committee, the Government states the programme to end routine inspection and assessment, abolish the Audit Commission and set up a new local audit framework, would deliver this scale of savings between 2012 and 2017.
