Public sector unions are gearing up for an ‘autumn of discontent' with plans for a series of strikes over pay. Both Unison and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) have been in talks with the National Union of Teachers over possible joint action. And PCS has proposed a motion at the Trades Union Congress next week calling for co-ordinated strikes in schools, town halls, hospitals and the civil service to highlight the capping of public sector pay deals at 2%. Unison is set to meet with the GMB and Unite this week to consider a revised pay offer of 3.4% for the poorest paid council workers and an extra 2.475% for all others.
