Environmentally-aware councils, companies and organisations have a new challenge to sink their teeth into – the Green Apple Environment Awards. The awards, supported by LocalGov.co.uk sister title The MJ and run by the Green Organisation, aim to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice. And any local authority or organisation can be nominated, as long as they are doing something benefiting the environment. National organiser, Roger Wolens, said: ‘We have categories for every type of council, plus opportunities for commerce and industry, community groups, charities and even individuals. ‘Everyone stands an equal chance because our judges always take into consideration the different levels of resources which contenders have available, so small companies often beat their bigger competitors.' Overall winners will receive the chance to represent the UK in the European Business Awards for the Environment and a trip for two to spa resort Aquacity, in Slovakia. There are no entry fees and the closing date is 30 June. To enter, call or fax 01604 810507, or log on to www.thegreenorganisation.info
