Backing for LGPS reforms prompts review

Ministers will launch a consultation on the Local Government Pension Scheme, as town hall employers and trade unions express support.

Ministers will launch a statutory consultation on the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), after town hall employers and trade unions expressed support for pensions reforms.

A joint statement on the consultations issued on 30 August confirmed that 93% of local government employers and the main trade unions – including Unison (90%), the GMB (95%) and Unite (84%) – have approved planned pension scheme changes due to take effect from 2014.
