More than 200 schoolchildren from Hackney and Tower Hamlets danced to the beat of many different drums at the fifth annual 'Borough Beats' show – held on 6 June at the legendary Hackney Empire.
Organised by the boroughs' music services and alternately hosted by the neighbouring authorities, this year's event showcased African and Afro Caribbean drumming, orchestral percussion and dancing displays. 'By the end, nearly everyone in the room was on their feet joining in and everyone left with a smile of their face,' said Cllr Rita Krishna, Hackney's cabinet member for children's services and education.
