Martin Reeves is to become chief executive at Coventry City Council when the new unitary structure abolishes Bedfordshire CC in April next year. He was appointed chief executive at Bedfordshire in April, after two years as assistant chief executive. He replaced Andrea Hill, who moved to Suffolk CC, where she has spearheaded that council's fight to be the single unitary authority serving the county. Mr Reeves vowed the council was ‘not shutting up shop early' and stressed: ‘Naturally, I'm delighted to have been appointed, but my focus and commitment is on the job to be done with Bedfordshire, leading the organisation through this significant period of change. Bedfordshire leader, Cllr Madeline Russell, congratulated Mr Reeves on his appointment, but added: ‘There is a job to be done in Bedfordshire until 31 March, and I am grateful to Coventry City Council for its support in recognising this.' Margaret Carney has been confirmed as new chief executive of the four star-rated Sefton MBC by a meeting of the full council. Ms Carney is currently executive director of resources at Rochdale MBC, and her appointment to replace Graham Hayward ends a recruitment process which began in May. Sefton leader, Cllr Tony Robertson, said: ‘This has been a lengthy and involved process, and I am satisfied that we have found the right person to continue to move the authority forward. ‘Sefton is an "excellent" rated local authority with many opportunities and challenges. I am sure the time and care we have put in to finding a new chief executive will pay off. The exercise to recruit a new chief executive has been very thorough, with all three political parties participating.'
