Former chair of the Local Government Association (LGA), Lord Jeremy Beecham, has hit out at the Government for failing to answer questions over the scrapping of the Audit Commission.

Former chair of the Local Government Association (LGA), Lord Jeremy Beecham, has hit out at the Government for failing to answer questions over the scrapping of the Audit Commission. Lord Beecham has tabled two questions on the abolition of the watchdog, but claims the responses revealed ‘an astonishing lack of detail'.

He said: ‘Abolition was clearly determined before any appraisal of the financial implications.
