Proposals for a new allowance for unelected members of the public assisting councillors were discussed at the Welsh Local Government Partnership Council last week. 'The appointment of co-optees is a positive development opening up local government to the public, involving people in local government business and in getting user representation,' a Welsh Local Government Association spokesperson said.
