West Berkshire Council has become the latest local authority to face a legal challenge over cuts to social care budgets.
Law firm Irwin Mitchell, with support from the charity Mencap, has launched proceedings against the council on behalf of five severely disabled young people. According to Irwin Mitchell, West Berkshire Council is one of only three local authorities in the country – the others being Northumberland and Wokingham councils – to only provide care services to those classed as having ‘critical needs'.
