The mayor of Berwick-upon-Tweed BC has said one way forward is for his authority to merge with neighbouring Alnwick DC. Cllr ~Richard Patterson~ told a recent meeting the authority was the second-smallest in the country and could merge with Alnwick, if other councils in the county also went down the unitary route. ‘Alnwick and Berwick would work well together because of the rural area we cover,' he told The MJ. ‘But it's up to the Government to decide.'
