MPs' proposals to tackle clusters of high street betting shops were this week criticised as ‘illogical' by the Local Government Association (LGA).

Local authorities should be given powers to allow betting shops to increase the number of high-stakes slot machines if this would help solve the problem, a report issued on 24 July by the Commons culture, media and sport (CMS)select committee recommended.
