New research has claimed volunteers have little enthusiasm for the Government's much-maligned 'Big Society' agenda.

Only one in eight volunteers are in favour of the flagship policy, according to a study published by the British Sociological Association. Speaking at the association's annual conference, research co-author, Dr Rose Lindsey, said some of the volunteers surveyed found the Big Society agenda is ‘meaningless and lacking in clarity'.'The majority of observers showed little desire or capacity to take on additional voluntary work,' said Dr Lindsey.
