Birmingham appoints new assistant director

Rishi Shori has been named assistant director for strategic partnerships, external affairs and corporate leadership.

Birmingham City Council has appointed Rishi Shori as its new assistant director for strategic partnerships, external affairs and corporate leadership.

Mr Shori, who was previously leader of Bury MBC and part of the mayoral leadership team in Greater Manchester, joined Birmingham in July 2019 as head of leader's office and external affairs.

Chief executive Deborah Cadman said: ‘Rishi has made a significant impact since joining the council and his unique blend of skills and experience will further strengthen our senior team.'

Sean Anstee has been appointed chair of the board at Fortior Homes, Stoke-on-Trent City Council's wholly-owned housing company, taking over from council leader Abi Brown.

Mr Anstee spent 13 years as an elected member at Trafford MBC and was awarded a CBE for services to local government in 2019.

He said: ‘I believe this is a fantastic opportunity for me to be able to apply my experience of governance, development and real estate to take things forward, with support of the city council.'

Maud Hollis has been appointed by Tile Hill as a consultant.

She has joined in the executive search team alongside Greg Hayes, Chris Barrow, and Helen Anderson.

A spokeswoman said: ‘Maud will use her decade of experience and extended network in the sector to work closely with clients to secure the skills, fit, culture and leadership needed to fulfil the demanding senior roles of the public sector.'

Alan Waters, leader of Norwich City Council, has announced he will stand down at next May's elections.

Deputy leader, Gail Harris has also confirmed she will not stand for re-election.

Cllr Waters has been a city councillor for more than 30 years, including a decade as leader.

He said: ‘It has been a tremendous privilege to work with so many talented and committed people over the years.'

He added: ‘Gail has been an exceptional colleague and one of the finest housing cabinet members I've had the privilege and honour to work with over many years.'
