Former Birmingham City Council and Suffolk CC chief executive, Lin Homer, has landed another senior role within Whitehall – as new chief of the Revenue and Customs (HMRC) department.
Ms Homer, who previously led the UK Border Agency as its most senior officer, will be responsible for leading the HMRC through a crucial period as Britain struggles to reduce its public deficit – and the department moves on from criticism of its ‘sweetheart deals' with big businesses seeking to reduce their corporation taxes. Ms Homer was chief executive of Suffolk from 1998 to 2002, when she left to join Birmingham. She moved to the UKBA in 2005.
