Appointing ~Stephen Hughes~ as ~Birmingham City Council~'s new chief executive has reportedly caused political problems within the council. According to the Birmingham Post, Labour members of the appointment panel preferred an alternative candidate. Cllr ~Alan Rudge~ cabinet member for equalities and human resources said a ‘rigorous' recruitment and selection process had been undertaken. The decision to recommend Mr Hughes as the preferred candidate was ‘the view of the majority of the duly-appointed JNC panel'. Former council leader and Labour member Sir ~Albert Bore~ was unavailable for comment.
