Disruption on the railways over Christmas and the New Year period has damaged Birmingham's reputation as a national business centre, according to local business chiefs. Birmingham Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Jerry Blackett, said delays to re-opening the mainline cost the region's economy millions of pounds. ‘We can't afford to have people forced to stay away from their offices because of transport problems,' he said.
