Local government remained relatively unscathed in last week's reshuffle. Secretary of state, Hazel Blears, and local government minister, John Healey, both remained in post at Communities and Local Government. However, the rest of the department did see changes, with housing minister, Caroline Flint, shifted to the Foreign Office under former local government secretary, David Miliband. She will be replaced in the role by Labour stalwart, Margaret Beckett. And junior minister Parmjit Dhanda has lost his role to be relegated to the back benches. Sadiq Khan will replace him. New CLG line-up: Hazel Blears – communities and local government secretary; Margaret Beckett – minister for housing; John Healey – minister for local government; Sadiq Khan – parliamentary under secretary of state; Iain Wright – parliamentary under secretary of state; and Kay Andrews – parliamentary under secretary of state
