The Liberal Democrats have accused the Government of passing the buck to councils over community cohesion. Liberal Democrat local government spokesman, Julia Goldsworthy, said the Government itself was responsible for creating community tensions, after Hazel Blears said councils should map local areas for trouble hotspots. ‘Out-of-date population estimates leave areas experiencing growth and migration without the funding they need for vital public services,' she said. Ms Blears has published guidance for councils to map their communities, which encourage local authorities to monitor racist, religious and other criminal incidents.
