People love sharks. People love tornados. Put them together and you've got this summer's cult film – Sharknado – which features (you've guessed it) a tornado filled with killer sharks. You're probably wondering just how a local authority would deal with such a terrifying ordeal. Fortunately, Glasgow resident Rob McMillan was one step ahead and filed a Freedom of Information request with Glasgow City Council to find out. The bad news is that no specific risk for a ‘Sharknado' has been identified on the Glasgow city risk register. ‘Glasgow City Council, in line with the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, works in collaboration with partner agencies to carry out risk assessments across the city council area,' was the response. ‘These assessments cover elements associated with severe weather, coastal flooding and animal-based risks.' But the good news is there are control measures in place for ‘tornado-style waterspouts', which should allay most people's fears. According to Hollywood sources, plans are already afoot for a sequel, called appropriately, Sharknado 2. Only this time, Glasgow City Council will be ready.
