The race is on to land a £258m contract to clear part of the capital's waste. The North London Waste Authority has announced it is looking to develop a network of new and refurbished waste-treatment facilities, and to establish a fuel use-recovery facility. Two private-finance initiatives worth £258.4m will cover the London boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest. Together, these facilities will handle around 3% of the national municipal waste tonnage by 2045. Currently, waste disposal services are delivered through a contract with LondonWaste Limited – a company which is wholly owned by the authority.
