Incoming new powers for social tenants could boost local housebuilding, housing minister Mark Prisk has said.
Under ‘right to transfer' powers coming into force this autumn, tenants will be able to request that their council-run properties are transferred to a housing association. Councils will be obliged to consider the application but tenants must first show how any change would offer value-for-money benefits, and extra housebuilding.
