Changing demand for web services has led to a radical relaunch of one council's website. Cheltenham BC has overhauled its Internet offering to meet ‘Web 2.0' demand from citizens. It now features up-to-the-minute news and council information. It also integrates with third party websites such as YouTube and photo site Flickr. The new site, reworked by IT firm Jadu, was launched in response to the success of a flood blog in 2007. John Steed, head of service development at the council, said: ‘Our principal driver is the customer and our wish to be open, transparent and accessible. Access to information is power, and social networking is at the core of this initiative. We are very keen that this should not just be a site for the council – it should be a site for Cheltenham which opens a dialogue with the visitor and provides a strong sense of place.'
