London in Bloom judges visiting Lewisham LBC last week saw the latest weapon in the borough's eco-campaign – a travelling shed. This ordinary garden shed has had a green makeover and now comes complete with a living roof. The conversion by Honor Oak Park Action Group used environmentally-friendly paints, wood found in skips, and items bought in charity shops to decorate inside. The aim is to take the shed across the borough and educate others on how to ‘green up' their shed, learn more about biodiversity, grow their own fruit and vegetables, and make the most of their back garden as a wildlife habitat. Lewisham achieved a silver gilt in the London in Bloom competition last year and is hoping the ‘travelling shed' will give it the edge in this year's competition when results are announced in September.
