Aberdeen City Council has launched a scheme to deter begging, by placing public collection boxes throughout the city centre. The first has been put up in partnership with the store John Lewis, and Cllr Martin Greig, chair of Aberdeen's community safety partnership, said: ‘The boxes are intended to discourage giving money directly to beggars, and donations will go towards practical help such as shelter, food and clothing.'
