Cheshire East Council, which has one of the largest ageing populations in the country, has seemingly bucked a national trend by increasing its adult services budget for 2011/12 by £11.3m, a rise of 16.3%
A recent BBC survey revealed councils in the North had cut social care spending by 4.7%, to £3.4bn, while counterparts in the South had raised overall expenditure by 2.7% to £3.3bn.
