Nottinghamshire CC has announced that Mick Burrows will succeed Roger Latham as its new chief executive. Mr Burrows is currently strategic director of communities at the local authority, and has been with the council for 13 years. He will take up his new post at the end of April, after Mr Latham retires. Mr Burrows joined the council in 1995 as a project manager for adult learning. In 1999, he was appointed assistant director in culture and community, and in 2003 became director of culture and community. In 2006, he oversaw the merger of two large departments and became director of communities. His appointment is subject to ratification by the council's cabinet. ‘I am passionate about our county and I look forward to playing a major part in shaping its future,' he said. ‘It is a privilege to take the helm at such an important local authority with a strong tradition of public service and innovation.' Council leader, David Kirkham, was ‘delighted' to appoint a chief executive who was ‘Nottinghamshire born and bred'. John Mothersole has been appointed interim chief executive at Sheffield City Council and will take over the reins from Sir Bob Kerslake, who leaves next week. Mr Mothersole is currently executive director for development, environment and leisure at the council. The process to recruit a permanent chief executive will start later this month and the council hopes to make an offer to the successful candidate by the end of June. ‘Although this is an interim role, it is still very much business as usual for the council,' said leader, Jan Wilson. ‘We will all still be working hard to continue to provide the best-possible services for the people of Sheffield.'
