Lewes DC has hit out at the massive costs involved in the concessionary bus fares scheme.
The East Sussex council claims it is facing a budget shortfall of £600,000 to run the scheme, while the whole county will have to find an extra £6.7m more.
‘Both parties on our cabinet unanimously condemned the Government's failure to honour its promise and fully fund the scheme,' said Lewes DC leader, Ann De Vecchi.
District Sounding Board chairman, Sharon Taylor, said: ‘We need to make the Government aware that for districts with relatively small budgets, the impact of having to find more than £500,000 is going to be very severe.'
