Cornwall CC has urged ministers to remove the council tax discount on second homes – a move which could raise £1.6m annually across the authority.
The discount on second homes was slashed from 50% to 10% prior to the formation of Cornwall CC as a unitary authority in 2009. But the county, a popular weekend retreat for high-earners, now wants ministers to scrap the benefit altogether as it struggles to make its required savings.
