It can't be easy being prime minister David Cameron. Apart from having to endure the usual brickbats for running the country, he also has to deal with problems closer to home. Only this week, it emerged that one of his constituency town councils was thinking of banning members from talking to the press without getting written permission first from the authority as part of its new media policy. According to the Oxford Mail, the draft rule read: ‘Councillors and staff, other than the clerk or communications officer, cannot in their official capacity provide verbal or written statements to the media or write articles for publication, using the media, about the council's business decisions and actions, without the council's prior written consent.' This has not gone down well with Mr Cameron, who said: ‘Witney Town Council, as is the case with all public bodies, needs to ensure that its business is conducted in an open and transparent way as possible.'
