More local authorities could introduce congestion charges after councils in Manchester received £2.8bn funding from the Government. A bid from the Manchester councils for money from the Government's transport innovation fund (TIF) was given the green light by transport secretary Ruth Kelly this week. Other councils, including Bristol City Council and Cambridgeshire CC may now include congestion charges as part of their own bids for TIF money. Bristol City Council's executive member for transport, Cllr Mark Bradshaw, said they might submit plans for a congestion charge for Bristol and Bath as part of a TIF bid from the West of England Partnership later this year. But Cambridge CC cabinet member for growth, Cllr Matt Bradney said no definite decision had been taken.
