Senior officials at the Department for Communities and Local Government have admitted they were over-cautious about proposed Gershon efficiency savings. Hunanda Nouss, CLG director general of corporate delivery, revealed to MPs the department could have gone further in predicting savings. She explained to the Commons' communities and local government committee why her department had axed more than 900 jobs after Gershon had demanded a workforce reduction of just 400. βIt's fair to say that when Gershon first came along, we were fairly cautious about the savings that could be made,' she said.
