The lack of league tables in Wales may have contributed to problems at Bridgend CBC, the interim chief executive claimed. David Bowles described the performance situation in Wales as not ‘sufficiently challenging’, adding Bridgend’s performance would probably not have been tolerated in England. In April, The MJ reported that the Wales Audit Office (WAO) was promoting the introduction of league tables to ‘push forward improvements and measure standards’.
