Kensington & Chelsea’s mayor slipped easily into the champagne lifestyle last week when he met the winners of the oldest annual sporting event in Britain. The royal borough’s Cllr Tim Ahern greeted the competitors at the end of the four-mile-long Doggett’s Coat and Badge Race between London Bridge and Cadogan Pier in Chelsea. Competitors in the 291-year-old event must be members of the Watermen’s Company of the City of London, and have to row along the Thames to win the coveted badge. This year’s winner was Ross Hunter (pictured).
